A shot I took on a walk the day after Christmas, in some nearby hills, near the reservoir where our tap water comes from.

I’ll be posting a few more from the same walk in a bit, since I took a number of shots, especially higher up where some snow thin snow that had fallen in the night was left, catching the angling sunlight…

Aside from that, I’d like to wish everybody a happy new year and thank you all for your time taken viewing my photos and for your encouraging and interesting comments throughout the past year! One of the ideas I had in mind when I set up this blog was to get feedback and find out what others thought of my photos, and I can only say I haven’t been disappointed!

I’d promised more snow photos, so here they are! I’ve gone through all my stocks of winter photos now, so unless any more snow arrives between now and my next post, it’ll be photos from this summer that my organised self still hasn’t got round to posting!

        Until then, merry Christmas everybody!

Yet another shot from the same day! Don’t despair, this should be the last one! After this, I’ll be posting some summery photos from way back in September to get everybody out of their glum winter moods! (at least everyone in the Northern hemisphere!)

This is another shot from my snow session. Any comments are welcome, as usual!

While I was watching the wind blowing the snow around on the mountain across the valley (see last post), I couldn’t help noticing the twists and turns in the branches of a nearby tree…

Windblown Snow

One of the great advantages of living right next to both the sea and the mountains is that even if the climate is mild you can take a trip into the mountains for a taste of real winter! Just this weekend, snow settled on the surrounding hills and mountains down to about 300m (1000 ft) which made it an ideal day for that.

The wind was up the whole time, regularly lifting the snow up from the mountaintops and swirling it around in golden eddies which had me watching and shooting for ages from the other side of the valley. That definitely made it worth the biting cold and numb toes! (Lesson of the day: Always take waterproof walking boots!)

I still haven’t got round to calibrating my monitor or buying a new one, so please let me know if the colours or contrast don’t look right! Any other comments are welcome, too!

I was standing taking photos into the beech forest with the evening sun falling straight on to the moss on the ancient tree trunks, when I caught sight of the shadow of my leg on the tree trunk nearest me!
